Alton Towers in Cold Weather Outfit 1: Waterproof Jacket, Cashmere Scarf, Knit Jumper, Cuffed Utility Trousers, Thermal Base Layer, Boots, Waterproof Bum Bag, Beanie, Gloves

Waterproof Jacket or Poncho:

  • Since we’re in the UK, which is well known for unpredictable weather and drizzle, it’s always a good idea to pack a waterproof jacket, rain coat or poncho when visiting Alton Towers.
  • An insulated waterproof jacket is a must-have for keeping yourself dry. Look for something lightweight and breathable, so you don’t feel too stuffy. The rain coat can protect you on water rides too! You can also put your hood up to keep your hair and face dry without needing to worry about an umbrella, unless you’re bringing a bag.

Warmer Layers:

  • Bring a hoodie or fleece to wear underneath your jacket, because you’ll be standing and walking around in the cold and rain all day! I’d recommend merino wool base layers, because they’re thin yet extremely warm. People use them a lot for skiing and snowboarding – so they’d be great for a day at the theme park too!
  • Opt for leggings or jeans that are comfortable and easy to move around in. They’ll keep your legs warm and dry, and you won’t worry about them getting too wet or dirty. Choose darker colours that won’t show dirt easily.
  • I’d also suggest a pair of warm gloves – which will keep your hands toasty on rides in the cold. Bonus points if you have touchscreen gloves, so you can use your mobile or scroll without taking your gloves off!

Waterproof Shoes: Waterproof shoes are essential in rainy weather, as you don’t want your feet to get soaked while walking around the park. Wear waterproof shoes like Timberlands, rain boots or rubber sneakers to keep your feet dry and prevent slipping. They’ll keep your toes warm and toasty when it’s chilly outside too.

Waterproof Backpack or Bumbag: I’d recommend not bringing a bag if it’s pouring with rain. Try to fit everything you need in zip pockets on your body. But if you do need to bring around snacks, water, car keys, or anything else along with you, then definitely go for a waterproof bum-bag or backpack. These will protect your valuables on water rides too.

What to Wear to Alton Towers in Spring or Summer

Outfit Ideas for Warm Spring/Summer Weather

Alton Towers in Spring/Summer Outfit 1: Linen Shorts, Cami Vest Top, Linen Shirt, Sneakers, Cap, Bum Bag

Alton Towers in Spring/Summer Outfit 2: Sundress, Cardigan, Sunglasses, Mini Backpack, Scrunchie, Sneakers

Loose, Comfortable Clothing: When the sun is blazing, it’s important to wear loose and comfortable clothing. Whether you’re visiting Alton Towers in the spring or summer, a sundress or shorts are perfect for staying cool and comfortable all day.

  • Opt for light, flowy fabrics or breathable ones like cotton or linen that won’t stick to your skin or make you feel sweaty.
  • Depending on your vibe, I’d recommend wearing bright or light colours to match the cheerful mood of the park and to stand out on ride photos. If you wear black, you might get too hot, since the colour black tends to absorb heat.
  • If you’re nervous about your skirt or dress flying up on rides, wear a playsuit instead. Also, if you love fashion, you can explore fashion internships and job opportunities on Jooble – so you can make smart outfit choices not just for fun trips and weekends, but as a career.

Warmer Layers: Even in the summer months, the UK can get chilly when the sun goes in. Bring a linen shirt, cardigan or denim jacket to keep you warm when the temperature drops, or you’re stuck queuing in a shaded area.

Sun Protection: Sun protection is crucial when spending time outside in hot weather.

  • Wear a baseball cap or hat to protect your head and face from the sun’s harmful rays, and don’t forget to apply sunscreen to any exposed skin. It’ll keep you safe from sunburn but also add a stylish touch to your outfit.
  • If you have long hair, I’d recommend this special baseball cap which lets you rock a ponytail comfortably while wearing it! Make sure the cap is foldable and can fit in your bag during rides, or you can stash them in the ride cages.

Light Supportive Shoes: Remember to wear comfortable sneakers that you can walk around in for long periods without feeling uncomfortable. Choose something with good support and traction, as you’ll be doing a lot of walking and standing if you’re spending the day at a theme park like Alton Towers. Light white sneakers usually do the trick in summer, as they keep your feet cool and supported. Win.

What to Wear to Alton Towers in Cloudy Weather

Outfit Ideas for Cloudy Weather

Alton Towers in Cloudy Weather Outfit 1: Denim Jacket, Baseball Cap, Flannel Shirt, Crop Turtleneck, Black Cami, Leggings, Sneakers

Alton Towers in Cloudy Weather Outfit 2: Lightweight ‘Shacket’, Band Tee, Baggy Jeans, Boots, Beanie

Layer Up: When it’s cloudy and a bit cooler, wear a lightweight jacket or cardigan to keep yourself warm.

  • Opt for something that’s easy to take off and put on, so you can adjust to the changing weather throughout the day. I’d wear jeans or leggings that are comfortable and easy to move around in.
  • Opt for a darker colour that won’t show dirt or stains easily. You can also wear a pair of tights underneath if it’s particularly cold.

Comfortable Kicks: Wear comfortable boots or sneakers that you can walk around in for long periods without feeling uncomfortable. Choose something with good support and traction, as you’ll be doing a lot of walking and standing. You can also wear a pair of warm socks to keep your feet cosy.

Keep Warm: As mentioned, on cloudy days and even in the summer months, the UK gets pretty chilly when the sun isn’t out. Bring a sweater, fleece, cardigan or denim jacket to keep you warm when the temperature drops.

Rain Protection: When it’s questionable weather, I like wearing a beanie or baseball cap to keep my head warm, but also, as a backup in case it starts to drizzle. If you have long hair, I’d recommend this baseball cap which lets you rock a ponytail comfortably while wearing it – it’ll do the added job of keeping rain off your face too!

Essential Things To Wear to Alton Towers

Your Comfiest Shoes:

  • Comfortable shoes are a must when visiting Alton Towers, especially since you’ll be spending a lot of time on your feet queueing up and walking around. Wear sneakers that you can walk around in all day without feeling uncomfortable.
  • Avoid wearing flip-flops or sandals, as they may not be allowed on some of the rides.
  • If you’ve got high arches or any foot issues, consider buying slip-in insoles. I love Roo Runs for arch support.

Bum Bag or Small Backpack: Carrying a backpack or bumbag is a practical way to keep your hands free while exploring the park. Pack a small bag with essentials like sunscreen, water bottles, and snacks to keep you hydrated and energized throughout the day.

Zip Pockets and Secure Pouches: When going on rides, try to keep your legs and arms inside the ride vehicle to avoid getting splashed. Avoid wearing anything that can easily fall off, like hats or loose jewellery. I’d recommend having zip pockets for this particular reason, as personally I prefer to keep my phone on me, even on rides. Finally, if you want to keep your phone with you, consider investing in a waterproof pouch.

What to Wear on Splash and Water Rides

Water-Resistant Clothing or a Poncho: If you plan to go on water rides like the log flume, it’s important to wear water-resistant clothing to avoid getting drenched.

  • Avoid wearing heavy fabrics like denim or wool, as they tend to get heavy and uncomfortable when wet. Opt for lightweight, quick-drying materials like nylon or polyester that dry quickly.
  • Wearing a poncho is the ideal way to stay dry on water rides. They’re lightweight, easy to pack, and can be worn over your clothes. Many theme parks sell ponchos on-site, but if you have a poncho at home, bring it with you to save some money.

Zip Pockets: When going on water rides, it’s important to secure your belongings. Use a backpack or a bumbag with zip pockets to keep your essentials like your phone, wallet, and keys safe and secure. Avoid carrying anything that is not waterproof, or you might risk damaging them.

Waterproof Shoes: Water shoes are a great option when going on water rides, as they are specifically designed to be worn in water. They offer good grip and prevent slipping when walking on wet surfaces. Otherwise, make sure your feet are tucked away under your poncho!

Change of Clothes: Bringing a change of clothes is always a good idea when visiting a theme park. It’s much easier to change into dry clothes than to spend the rest of the day feeling wet and uncomfortable. They have clothing dryers next to the park which costs maybe £2 to dry yourself for a couple of minutes. If you don’t want to carry a change of clothes with you, many theme parks like Alton Towers have lockers available to store your belongings.

Sit in the Back: When going on water rides, try sitting in the back of the ride while rocking your poncho. You’ll have a better chance of avoiding the majority of the splashing and getting drenched. You’re likely to still get wet though!

Visiting a theme park is always an exciting experience, and it’s important to dress appropriately so you have the best possible day. With these tips, you’ll be able to enjoy your day at the theme park, rain or shine.

Remember, comfy shoes and clothes, zip pockets, and a backup poncho are all key for staying dry and happy – priorities when you’re spending a whole day at a theme park like Alton Towers.
