Rhodes by Sea: Romantika Cruises Review

Are you looking for the best boat tour in Rhodes, Greece?

You’re in the right place! I’m Mel, a travel blogger from London, and in this post I’m sharing my Romantika Dreams Day Cruise review, to help you make the most of your trip to Rhodes.

Rhodes is known for its stunning beaches and ancient ruins. The sun-kissed Greek island is historically a magnet for explorers and seafarers – so what better way to explore Rhodes than by boat?

In July I visited Rhodes for the very first time and had an unforgettable boat trip with Romantika Cruises.

Being a water baby, it’s probably no surprise that the day we spent sailing around the stunning blue bays and craggy shorelines of the Aegean Sea with Romantika Cruises was one of my trip highlights!

Read on for my detailed, honest review of sailing around Rhodes with Romantika Cruises.

Is Romantika Dreams Cruise In Rhodes Worth It?

If you don’t have time to read this whole post, here’s my recommendation: Book the tour! It’s awesome.

The Romantika Cruises have over 1,000 5-Star Ratings across multiple trusted tour websites. If you’re ready to book a tour with Romantika, you can do it via Tripadvisor, Viator or Get Your Guide.

Which Romantika Cruise Tour Did I Do in Rhodes?

We did the All Inclusive “Romantika” Day Tour (20m yacht) which departs at 10.00am and ends at 4pm, not to be confused with the larger “Romantika Dreams” (22m yacht) tour that sets off at 10.15am.

The catered tour includes free-flowing drinks, food and multiple stops at some of Rhodes’ most beautiful locations: Kallithea Springs, an ancient therapy spa; the Caves of Traganou at Afantou Beach, where you can snorkel inside rock formations; and Anthony Quinn Bay, an old pirate shelter teeming with marine life.

Where does the Romantika Cruise Tour depart from?

Romantika Cruises, a dreamy name for an unforgettable sailing experience, operates out of Mandraki Harbour, the main port of Rhodes. We boarded Romantika Dreams’s traditional wooden caique for a full-day tour at 9.30am before departing at 10.00am – at which point, most seats were already taken up.

Tip: Arrive at least 30 minutes early to secure a great seat on the boat!

What I Loved About the Romantika Day Cruise

Super friendly and efficient boat crew

There was so much to love about this tour, but let me start with the crew.

One of the best things about this trip was our banterous captain and his friendly, helpful team. They made the journey enjoyable, serving delicious fresh food, keeping the boat spotlessly clean (I mean, even the toilets were spotless), and adding a lively vibe to our adventure with fun music.

Amazing food and drinks served throughout the day

The Mediterranean buffet prepared by a professional chef was a feast for our taste buds, offering a wide variety of meat, seafood, and vegetarian delicacies. There was a free-flowing supply of chilled white and rosé wine, and locally produced beers. My companion was vegan and she had plenty of options to try out.

I’m not a big drinker myself, so I went for the soft drinks but everyone else on board was absolutely loving it. The bartender poured me refreshing cups of cherry juice on ice which my friend had served with a dash of ouzo in it. Yum!

Clean with good equipment and facilities

The boat was equipped with loads of relaxation space, perfect for soaking in the sun and the breathtaking views that Rhodes has to offer. Did I mention the equipment for water activities? They had snorkels and goggles and flippers available for seeing below surface. We even saw a turtle at one point!

Good pacing between each stop on the tour

The journey felt solid and well-paced. The time between stops was calculated just right, giving us ample time to enjoy the beauty of Rhodes by sea. We sailed past ancient cities, secluded beaches, and towering cliffs.

3 Things You Need To Know Before Doing The Romantika Day Cruise Tour In Rhodes

The Romantika Cruise is absolutely charming, and I’d definitely go again. However there are a few things you should be aware of before booking onto this cruise.

You don’t have control over who will be on the cruise with you

The first boat we were shown onto (the large and lovely “Romantika Dreams”) was overcrowded and a small group of rowdy passengers detracted from the experience. We were kindly moved onto “Romantika” – a smaller traditional caique boat, with less people, and a more chill vibe.

These tours are also open to bookings from the public, so you cannot choose who you ride with.

If you’re not into party music, I’d invest in a more quiet or private boat tour. Otherwise, get ready to dance!

You won’t be able to visit most stops by foot or on land

The boat tour was very well-paced, although you might need time to digest your food before you start diving off the boat again! Give yourself a breather from jumping and swimming around if you need to. timing of the stops and the fact we were left bobbing in the ocean right after lunch could have been better managed.

We also didn’t drop anchor near land at any point, so expect to either be swimming, snorkelling or floating in the sea, or relaxing on the boat. We didn’t bring a waterproof dry bag, so we wouldn’t have been able to swim to shore with our phones and valuables and explore Antony Quinn Bay, for example, or check out Kallithea Springs on foot.

You need to be a strong swimmer

It’s crucial to point out that you’ll probably need to be a decent or proficient swimmer for this tour. While there are floaties and pool noodles, the waves were fairly strong (and chilly) in some areas, especially at Afandou! I’d recommend testing the waters near the boat to see if you can handle the current or waves before setting off somewhere. You can also ask for a lifejacket if it makes you feel safer.

Here’s an easy solution if you can’t swim: kick back and sunbathe!

There is limited snorkelling and swimming equipment

I’d recommend jumping up and getting your equipment ahead of the first swim so you have a pair of flippers etc. We got snorkels and masks without any issues, but they ran out of flippers, which really would have helped us swim longer distances to explore the bays!

Should You Book the Romantika Day Cruise in Rhodes?

Yes. Book it!

Our sailing day with Romantika Cruises was a brilliant adventure. If you’re considering a trip to Rhodes, I’d highly recommend booking a day of sailing with Romantika Cruises to your itinerary.

Whether you can swim or not, experience the beauty of Rhodes from the water is a gorgeous experience. Turquoise sea, warm sun, good food and drink, and a great crew: that’s all you can ask for from a boat trip in Greece. And Romantika Cruises delivers.
