We first glimpsed the quirky Hotel La Perouse from a boat out at sea, looking back at Nice’s coast.
There in the heart of the French Riviera, regally embedded in a mountain cliff overlooking the city, sat the saffron yellow boutique hotel that would be our home for the weekend.
Conveniently located opposite the beach, five minutes away from Nice Old Town, our stay at Hotel La Perouse encompassed everything that a luxury traveller desires in a weekend break: peace, comfort, and beautiful views.
We were welcomed by the reception staff with warm smiles upon arrival, and the lovely manager Kristina personally gave us a tour around the hotel.
Services and Amenities
Because of its unique position in the mountain, Hotel La Perouse has an interesting physical layout. Multiple lifts service different floors, and each room is built to suit, which makes them feel like your own personal little cave or nook. Getting around can be a maze-like adventure.
Hotel La Perouse offers guests a whole host of relaxing amenities, including a swimming pool, a sauna, a roof terrace-cum-solarium bedecked with loungers, a small gym with exercise machines, and a Jacuzzi on the terrace.
If you stay in the dreamy Sea View rooftop suite, you’ll have your own private Jacuzzi to enjoy – as well as the most incredible views of Nice from your terrace, which is quite literally nestled beside the Colline du Château (Castle Hill) garden viewpoint.
Rise and Shine
We stayed in a Superior Full Sea View Room, featuring a supremely comfortable king size bed, a Mediterranean bathroom tiled in rustic Italian marble, and the pièce de résistance – a gorgeous view.
Our balcony, overlooking the pool and dining terrace below, provided a stunning vista of the ocean with the Promenade stretched out on the left-hand side. Nice Airport was visible in the distance.
On our first night at La Perouse, we curled up on the terrace with a bottle of wine. We watched airplanes take off and land over the ocean until the sun went down.
Cheers to a cracker of a sunset!
Waking up in the sea view room at La Perouse felt like a dream. Looking out onto the balcony, all we could see was water and sky – a gorgeous sight in the morning.
Our room included buffet breakfast in the main dining area and terrace, but room service happily offered for continental breakfast to be served on our balcony.
We opted to venture down to the dining terrace, shaded by lemon trees and flora, to enjoy the buffet breakfast, which was simple and varied. On offer were fresh fruits, pancakes and home-baked pastries, cereals, cold cuts, and hot choices including scrambled eggs and bacon.
There was also a machine serving up freshly squeezed orange juice, which tasted divine.
Side note: if you opt to dine outside, the local seagulls will try and nab your croissants when you’re not looking.
We spent our last day in Nice enjoying the hotel Jacuzzi and soaking up the sun at the swimming pool. It was the most relaxed I’ve ever been before a flight.
Our stay at Hotel La Perouse was flawless. The staff were kind, professional, and courteous. From the moment we checked into our room, it felt like we were in our own private haven along the French Riviera.
I could happily have spent the entire weekend in Nice sitting on our balcony, drinking wine, and watching the ocean.
I cannot recommend Hotel La Perouse enough if you are looking for a peaceful little slice of Nice to call your own. Every aspect of our stay was wonderful and I can’t wait to return.
Thank you for having us, Hotel La Perouse. À bientôt.
